A year ago, we promised to unveil Captain Péri’s rare photographs of the 1909 Battle of Yen Thé. Today, the wait is over! Over 80 never-before-seen images are now available.
Photographers, Publishers
Without photographers, there would be no postcards.
The names of photographers are not often printed on postcards. This makes it difficult, if not impossible, to compile a list of photographers.
Only the greatest photographers have left a trace of their work.
Sometimes photographers are publishers, participate in exhibitions, or are involved in events or works commissioned by the administration. Therefore, they are known and recognized.
But many remain and will remain unknown and forgotten.
A website created before 2012 by Mrs. Degroise, curator of the national archives of Overseas, is the bible for photography and postcard enthusiasts. There are sometimes omissions or errors on this site, but Marie-Hélène believed from the start that communication was the best way to attract amateurs and professionals to pay tribute to the photographers of the 19th century.
Cartacaro adopts the same principle with the same words while complementing it with the photographic and postcard finds of the 21st century.
