Hanoi owes its name to the surroundings of the Red River (Ha : river, Noi : interior), that is to say, Hanoi, the city inside the river.

This name was given to it by Emperor Ming Mang in 1831.It was formerly called the city of the rising dragon, Thang Long.

Long under the tutelage of China, the ’city of the rising dragon’ began to flourish from 1010.

Over the centuries and dynasties, it became a true imperial city and experienced its golden age in the 15th century, under the ’Le’ dynasty, which marked the pinnacle of Confucianism.

Hanoi lost its status as a capital at the beginning of the 19th century and regained it in 1954 and then in 1976.
