A year ago, we promised to unveil Captain Péri’s rare photographs of the 1909 Battle of Yen Thé. Today, the wait is over! Over 80 never-before-seen images are now available.
1950, Back in Black and White on 56 fragments of memory
Echoes of life, already 75 years
Along the delicately scalloped edges, these postcards — nearly 90% of which come from Vietnam — are fragments of a shared memory, that of the French Union overseas. Most often written by soldiers, they carry tender words to their wives, mothers, or children : kisses sent on the back of a distant landscape, a few modest sentences about this lurking war, which is not yet dared to be named, nor its dead counted.
