1950, Saigon, the Chinese Arroyo
The Chinese Arroyo is located south of Saigon and served as a natural border between Saigon and Cholon, the city’s Chinatown. It symbolises the historical Chinese presence in Saigon, reflecting the influence and integration of the Chinese community in the economic and cultural life of the city.
It was a vital link between these two important urban areas, facilitating transport and trade. The Chinese Arroyo was a major route for the transport of goods, particularly rice, between Cholon and the port of Saigon.
With the development of the road network and urban redevelopment, the economic importance of the Chinese Arroyo has declined.
