SUZANNAH Agricultural Company

Saigon, 29 October 1906.
Lieutenant Governor,
We have the honour of requesting that you kindly present to the Colonial Council, at this afternoon’s meeting, this request for the transfer to the Suzannah Company of the concessions obtained in our personal names on 9 October 1905. These concessions concern land located in the province of Biênhoà on the Saigon railway line in the Dau-Giay region.
Read and approved by Cazeau. Read and approved by Cuniac.
—
Mr Phong. — Gentlemen, in view of the documents in the file, which leave no doubt as to the legal existence of the Suzannah Company, and the letter from Messrs Cazeau and Cuniac, which the President has just read to us, I request, in accordance with last year’s Colonial Council deliberations, that the concessions granted to Messrs. Cazeau and Cuniac be transferred to the Suzannah Company. This will put an end to all the difficulties that have arisen between the parties. I believe my colleagues will agree with me?
Mr. President. — I put Mr. Phong’s proposal to the vote.
Adopted.

The Suzannah plantation, located at the 67th kilometre of the Saigon to Khanh Hoa railway line, is 175 metres above sea level and comprises 2,600 hectares of exceptionally rich volcanic soil, which is 25 to 40 metres deep.
The public limited company, with a capital of 150,000 piastres, was formed in 1907 by the founders of a research company promoted by Mr Louis Cazeau. It took two years of trials.
Today, the company plants rubber trees, 30,000 in 1907 and 100,000 in 1908, and, to cover its costs, also cultivates mulberry, cassava, castor beans, tobacco and peanuts. All agricultural implements are mechanical.
