The work of mother-of-pearl
We have all seen or purchased albums of postcards, with covers made of mother-of-pearl inlay.
Sometimes very damaged, these albums nonetheless leave us admiring this meticulous work.
The interior often withstood the test of time better than the cover, which is made of painted silk, a real treat for the eyes.
There were many workshops.
The result is magnificent ;
Europeans would make these acquisitions and give photo albums, jewelry boxes, or souvenir cases made of inlaid mother-of-pearl.
