A Turkish camp ???

Turcos Camp, the caption on Raphael Moreau’s postcard. Strange !

Le campement Turcos

No, they’re not Turks. ’Turco’ is a nickname given to Algerian, Moroccan, and Tunisian Rifle Regiments. Turcos belong to the Infantry Arm. Both belong to the Armée d’Afrique, which refers to the troops from North Africa, made up largely of natives and Europeans. At the time of the postcard shown here, the Turcos were part of an “expeditionary” unit, i.e., a unit temporarily present in the country. It’s true that for Europeans in 1900, soldiers dressed in large white burnous, Muslims, were called Turks !
Thanks to André for these clarifications.

No barracks, no tents

Dressed in white, laundry.
